Representative Substitution: Jesus represented us (the guilty), took our place, and experienced the judgment of God—instead of us.
Imputation: God imputed (credited) our sin on Jesus. God imputed (credited) Jesus’ righteousness to us.
Israel was longing for a military leader who could free them from life in Rome. God’s Messiah was a suffering servant who freed us from sin for eternity. Israel wanted a military and political leader God sent a Savior to defeat sin and death once and for all.
Now, of course, Jesus didn’t remain in the grave. He rose from the dead. We celebrate that every day. And we’ll celebrate that together next week.
Followers of Jesus changed the world.
