EP 75: Raising Resilient Kids: The 5 Principle of Parenting with Aliza Pressman
When it comes to raising kids, there is so much conflicting advice out there that often leads to self-doubt. Ultimately, what does the latest science say about how to best raise our kids to ensure they grow up to be resilient, confident and kind adults?
In this episode, we speak with developmental psychologist Aliza Pressman, the author of “The Five Principles of Parenting.” She discusses why the adage to “go with your gut” is wrong, and dive into a number of topics from how to best discipline, how to praise without over-praising, and how to fight near your kids (we dive into the dangers of hiding conflict from them!), among many other topics.
Pressman, who is also the mother to two teenagers, also talks about the hot button issue of screen time for kids, as well as the appropriate way for parents to be on their phones in front of kids. The episode is full of helpful advice as you navigate how to best guide the kid in your life.
