Episode 8 of...
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court
by
Mark Twain
Last time we saw Hank he was holding court with King Arthur. Hank shared with Arthur the idea of disguising himself as a freeman to get a feel for the common people. King Arthur loved the idea and asked to join.
Before they could leave Arthur needed to finish a few Kingly duties. While Hank is waiting he buys a newspaper, one that he invented and reads the account of the miracle at the fountain to the monks.
Disguised as commoners Hank and King Arthur set out. As they travel King Arthur finds it difficult to humble himself before other nobles. It doesn’t take long before he forgets his disguise and starts cursing and yelling at passing knights. Hank intervenes by throwing his dynamite torpedo at the knights, killing them and their horses.
After the incident Hank decides to take time and train Arthur how to act like a commoner. Hank thinks Arthur is ready and they approach a nearby hut. Inside the hut is a women dying of smallpox. She tells Hank and King Arthur how she was banned from the church and how her family ended up in this situation.
As she finishes her story her last daughter dies in her arms.
Well King Arthur so sympathy to the women? Will her story change the way he rules Camelot?
