This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas enter into a Faustian pact with the Devil to sell our souls in exchange for seven wishes, resulting in a wacky Monkey's Paw situation where all of our wishes are sabotaged by the diabolical demon.
It's the final week of our Brenaissance Mini-Arc – and we are taking a look at one of the types of films that Brendan Fraser would find himself settling into as the new millennium would roll around: Harold Ramis' 2000 comedy, BEDAZZLED. A remake of the 1967 Dudley Moore and Peter Cook classic, this revamp of the twist on the legendary Faust tale sees Brendan Fraser battling wits with Elizabeth Hurley as the Devil.
While not a great movie, the film sees a very strong showcasing of Fraser's acting chops, where he plays seven versions of himself. We are treated to several vignettes, as Fraser's Eliot makes wish after wish, only to have each thwarted by Hurley's meddling Satan.
Tune in, as we have one last hurrah with the Bren-man and enjoy each of these goofy wishes, all the amazing Liz Hurley early-2000s era outfits, and a Big Mac and Coke.
“Ah... well, you know, you go out there and you give a 110%, and you wanna play good, and, you know, you hope you play good... I think we played pretty good tonight!”
