This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas accidentally knock the usual Santa off the PCC stage during rehearsals for our annual Muppet Christmas Carol shows. When they went to check on him, his body had vanished and the only thing left was his suit with a card that read, "If something should happen to me, put on my suit; the projectionist will know what to do." Thus, is the story of how Fil got roped into hosting the Muppet Christmas Carol performances at the cinema this year...
In all seriousness, it's Christmastime – the most wonderful time of the year – and with that comes discussions of Christmas movies! If that little bit of fluff above didn't tip you off, we're of course kicking off Christmas 2022 with one of our favourite Christmas films, the 1994 Tim Allen comedy, THE SANTA CLAUSE.
It was the first big screen foray for the standup comedian turn sitcom star, and it was the perfect vehicle to get him up and running. With a simple premise of, "What would happen if you accidentally killed Santa and had to replace him", slightly tweaked with, "What would happen if Tim 'the Tool Man' Taylor accidentally killed Santa and had to replace him", it was a hit!
Of course, with all its magic, humour, and unique toying with Santa lore, The Santa Clause has become an all-time classic this time of year. Join us, as we gush about our memories and questions some of the Santa logic...
