This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas find themselves enlisted in the French Army during the height of World War 1. Stuck in the trenches trying to avoid the deadly mustard gas, the pair decide to record a podcast.
It's Week 1 of our new arc – WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?... HOLLYWOOD MOVIES – where we will be talking all things war movies and war adjacent over the next 8 or 9 weeks. We'll be kicking things off, as we move in chronological order by war, with a World War 1 movie – Stanley Kubrick's 1957 anti-war classic, PATHS OF GLORY.
We'll discuss how Kubrick got this adaptation off the ground, Kirk Douglas's barrel chest and chiselled chin, fake kidnappings, and our favourite WW1 movies.
War sucks, but Hollywood sure does love to exploit them for movies. Tune in as we become part of the problem...
