This week on The NEW* Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by the Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan and Fil bring you a New Arc for the podcast – ANDERSON vs ANDERSON!
Inspired by the on-going director retrospectives this Summer at The PCC (and our random Hard Eight discussion last week), Jon and Fil will be pitting the films of two of the cinema's favourite directors Wes Anderson and Paul Thomas Anderson against each other. Each week we will be ping-ponging between each director, focussing on one of their films at a time. We will compare, contrast and charting how each directors have grown and changed over the years, for better or worse. We will devour their entire filmographies from 1996 to present day, and we will be ranking as we go along.
Officially kicking things off this week, we'll discuss Wes Anderson's 1996 heist comedy BOTTLE ROCKET, starring Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Robert Musgrave and James Cann. Adapted from the short film of the same name, we learn how Wes Anderson and the Wilson brothers got their start and churned out one helluva fun debut feature. It might not have all the hallmarks you've come to expect from a Wes Anderson film by, but it certainly is an interesting start. Tune in to join us on this exciting new journey!
*We don't really know how to define "New". It's pretty much the same.
