Final Four Preview with Rick Mount and Dereck Whittenburg + Tony East Joins!
(00:00-28:20) – Query & Company opens on a Thursday with Jake Query, Jimmy Cook, and producer Eddie Garrison discussing another disappointing loss for the Indiana Pacers last night against the Brooklyn Nets. They also look forward to Indiana State’s NIT Championship game tonight against Seton Hall and debate if they have reached the point where they’ve proven that the committee got it wrong for leaving them out of the NCAA Tournament.
(28:20-49:25) – Purdue legend Rick Mount joins Query & Company with Jake and Jimmy to discuss the job that Matt Painter has done with this Purdue team to get to the Final Four, shares what he remembers from committing to Purdue back in 1967, takes everyone through Purdue’s Final Four run in 1969, walks everyone through the story of him telling people at Iowa that one of the rims was crooked, what his overall reaction was to Zach Edey eclipsing his points record, and reveals who is the best shooter he’s ever seen.
(49:25-50:41) – Hour one concludes with Jake and Jimmy recapping their thoughts on the Rick Mount interview.
(50:41-1:20:03) – Hour number two starts with Jake Query and Jimmy Cook previewing tonight’s NIT Championship game for the Indiana State Sycamores against the Seton Hall Pirates. Additionally, they discuss the news from yesterday with the Kansas City Chiefs not being able to get a new stadium in Kansas City because taxpayers didn’t approve the new stadium build.
(1:20:03-1:42:57) – North Carolina State legend Dereck Whittenburg joins Query & Company on the 41-year anniversary of the Wolfpack’s National Championship game where Jim Valvano runs all over the court to discuss that moment. He also talks about how the current run for NC State is identical to their run in 1983, previews an upcoming book he has coming out about the experience of being a college student-athlete, and the 30 for 30 that was done on that championship game.
(1:42:57-1:44:06) – Jake closes out the first hour of the show by reminding people where they can get all the Purdue interviews that the shows have had this week.
(1:44:06-2:07:13) – Tony East from Sports Illustrated, Forbes Sports, and Locked On Pacers joins the program to assess the lost last night for the Indiana Pacers against the Brooklyn Nets, states that the inconsistencies for the Pacers against below average competition is because of their lack of focus to details defensively, examines the future of Jalen Smith with the Pacers, and believes Doug McDermott is going to only receive spot minutes in a playoff series.
(2:07:13-2:16:33) – Jake comes back from break and shares a note from a listener pertaining to Monday’s show where Purdue fans called the program to highlight people who are no longer with us that would be excited about the Boilermakers making the Final Four. Additionally, Eddie shares a story.
