George McKay and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett on the Duality and Revenge of Femme
George McKay and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett join Kyle Meredith to discuss Femme, a revenge thriller about Jules, who as Aphrodite Banks has a place among London’s celebrated drag artists. One night after a show, he steps out to get some cigarettes and is brutally attacked by a man out with a gang of his friends. Although Jules can recover physically, he withdraws from the outside world, traumatized. Months later, he recognizes his attacker by chance in a gay sauna. Without make-up and wrapped only in a towel, Jules can approach the other man incognito and find out who he is and begins an affair with the closeted Preston, with a plan to take his revenge. Both actors dig into the duality of their characters, with McKay championing the big roles he’s loved in the past such as John Leguizamo as Tybalt, while Stewart-Jarrett describes the mental and physical adjustments he had to make coming off of the show Culprits. The two reveal the internal acting and self-hatred that both roles demanded, what is was like working with two directors (Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping), as well as what it was like once the cameras were off.
