Join us this week as we sit down with Sensei Rudy Duquet. Sensei Duquet started martial arts when he was just 4 and half years old! He first practiced Taekwon-Do and obtained his first black belt at the age of 10. After winning several titles in competition in this discipline, he felt the need to develop further and differently. It was the beginning of Karate-Do in 1995 with the Yoseikan Karate-Do Federation, where for several years of practice, teaching, involvement at the competitive team level, and even as head instructor of his own school, that Sensei Duquet reached the level of 6th dan black belt. He later participated in many competitions to obtain several world championship titles. In January 2017, Sensei Duquet founded his style of karate: SHINKA-RYU which means “the school of evolution and progression of karate”. Rudy’s martial system is based on an amalgamation of techniques, kickboxing, handling of traditional weapons, self-defense, and katas based on Shotokan, as well as all of his experiences participating in various martial seminars, and developing towards Goju-Ryu for black belts and above. Sensei Duquet’s numerous training sessions in Japan have had a great influence on the art taught in his style. Sensei Duquet is in constant search of improvement and his multiple trips to Japan allowed him to become even better and to share this passion and this learning with the members of his school.
