Relentlessly pursue excellence.
“I was raised to believe that excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism. And that’s how I operate my life.” –Oprah Winfrey
There is no denying the reality that there is injustice and inequality in the world. The obstacles of racism, sexism, classism, and all sorts of other isms must be navigated and overcome by many of us.
In facing these challenges it’s helpful to embrace the words of Proverbs: A person’s gift will make room for them (Proverbs 18:16). We must commit ourselves to getting better each and every way, each and every day.
We must never live down to the low expectations that others place on us. We must always seek to live up to the high expectations that we place on ourselves.
We must relentlessly pursue excellence and trust that our excellence will break through the doors others try to keep closed.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
