Happy Birthday to me! Aging Fabulously in a culture that values youth
Welcome to "Fabulous over 50" - the podcast that celebrates the freedom that comes with age, wisdom, and finally being able to say "I don't give a darn!" to other people's opinions. Today's episode is all about embracing your inner child, letting go of other people's expectations, and doing what makes you feel fabulous (even if that means glitter-covered leggings and neon-colored nail polish.)
It's my birthday, but YOU get a gift! See below for details...I'm turning 55 this week, and I'm taking you on my journey where I've learned that it's not just society that values youth, but our own self-doubts too. I'm sharing the honest truth that she used to be afraid of turning 50, but now I feel like I've been handed a magical shield - a shield made of glitter that reflects any ageist comments right back where they came from.
But, my friends, this isn't just any old shield. No, this is a shield that sparkles brighter than anything you've ever seen before. It's a shield that shimmers with the wisdom and life experience that come with every passing year. I've found my own definition of what it means to be fabulous over 50, and I'm here to tell you that there's no need to conform to other people's expectations of what we should look like, act like, or be interested in. I want to be aging fabulously, and honestly that can be difficult to feel that way in our society.
So, what does it mean to embrace our inner child? Well, it means doing what makes us happy and what brings us joy. It means shedding the things that make us miserable, whether that's a toxic relationship, a job we hate, or a sweater that's been sitting in the back of our closet for decades. It means adding some spontaneity to our lives and being willing to jump headfirst into new adventures. I want to inspire you to let go of other people's opinions and expectations and to start focusing on ourselves.
And I encourage you to find the things that make you truly happy, even if they're unconventional. Want to dye your hair hot pink? Go for it! Want to start wearing glitter every day? You do you! Want to start a business launching on the 4th of July to symbolize freedom? Why the heck not - I did! Over 50, we no longer need to worry about what others think of us. It's time to embrace our inner child and let our true, fabulous selves shine through. And if anyone tries to rain on our glitter-filled parade, we'll just flash our magical shield and watch them disappear in a puff of envy.
Let's raise a glass of bubbly to us! And to the decades of our lives, that have taught us that being fabulous isn't about material possessions, but about doing what makes us feel good. Cheers to embracing our inner child and finding joy in every moment, no matter how old we are!
