110 - Surah Nasr “Divine Support” the 110th Surah of the Qur’an | Recitation
Surah Nasr (Arabic text: ألنَّصْر) is the 110th Surah of the Qur’an. It is titled in English “Help” or “Divine Support” and composed of 3 verses. The consensus of Quranic exegetes agrees that Surah Nasr is a late Medinan surah. It is often regarded as the last surah which was revealed in its entirety according to hadith by Ibn Abbas (cousin of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)). Ubaidullah b. Abdullah b. Utba reported: Ibn Abbas said to me: Do you know-and in the words of Harun (another narrator): Are you aware of the last Sura which was revealed in the Qur’an as a whole? I said: Yes,” When came the help from Allah and the victory”. Thereupon, he said: You have told the truth. (Sahih Muslim 3024)
A few individual verses are believed to have been revealed after Surah Nasr but this is not in conflict since no complete Surah was sent down after the present one. It is like Surah Fatiha which was the first surah revealed in its wholeness whereas we know the Angel Jibril embraced Propet Muhammad (ﷺ) tightly and commanded him to read the first revelation of the Quran in Surah Alaq, “Read! In the name of Allah who created, created man from a clot.”
This Surah is less commonly known as Surah At-Tawdi, the word Tawdi` meaning ‘to bid farewell’. It’s believed that through this Surah it informed Propet Muhammad (ﷺ) that his time was coming near as the overall message of this Surah is about how he fulfilled his task and accomplished his mission to deliver the word of Allah. Now he could look forward to returning to his Lord.
