🚔 Canada’s anti-money laundering agency, FINTRAC, has fined cryptocurrency exchange Binance nearly C$6 million (approximately $4.38 million USD) for breaching money laundering and terrorist financing laws. Binance failed to register as a foreign money services business with FINTRAC despite multiple deadlines. 🚨 Binance and KuCoin Exchange have been registered by India’s anti-money laundering regulator, marking a credibility shift for crypto in the nation. KuCoin paid a $41,000 fine and resumed operations, while Binance awaits a penalty determination, potentially facing a $2 million fine. Other platforms are negotiating with regulators or planning to exit India. ⚡ Lightning Labs, the developer behind Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, has tested a protocol that allows stablecoins to be issued on the Bitcoin blockchain. The CEO, Elizabeth Stark, announced that they recently executed a test transaction using the Taproot Assets protocol on the Lightning Network. The goal is to enable the use of stablecoins and other assets on the Bitcoin blockchain, expanding its use cases and attracting more users to the world of digital assets.
