Coach Betsy hosts open coaching for members working to change their relationship to binging for the better. She starts us off with an invitation to openness and explains the role of restriction in the Binge Purge Cycle.
Seesaw Syndrome
Binge (+ guilt/shame/judgement) leads to . . .
Restriction (to lessen guilt/pressure) leads to overcorrecting with a binge, because the brain is wired against restriction, kicking off a survival response.
What if we met a binge with compassion? with curiosity? with acceptance?
Get off the seesaw.
00:16:30 Jenn (she does pull her vehicle over!) binges when overwhelmed. Betsy coaches her about what she is really seeking.
00:28:00 April has rules around planning "unhealthy foods" or snacks. Not being hungry at snack time is making this feel like restriction, but overeating isn't the answer either. Is it diet thinking? What's happening?!
00:37:00 Karen is coached on how to recover following a binge and purge.
00:54:30 Sheryl is wondering if a recent event was a binge or an overeat. Betsy coaches her that the difference is actually between making a decision and judging it.
