What would've made it easier/What would you have changed?
"If I was 25 again, you know, I probably would still be wanting to use my voice in some way and I probably would have just gone straight into recording a podcast because I wouldn't have needed all of that extra stuff."
What are the first mistakes that podcasters often make in marketing?
"The sound is definitely a big one. Here are some top tips:
"Make sure that you are happy, that you are smiling. The person that you are interviewing is probably going to be quite excited because they are talking about something passionate to them. So, I think it's really important to be aware of the other person's energy. Sometimes you'll get a guest talking in a total monotone and you'll really want to help to encourage them to lift their own energy and the only way you can do that is by lifting your own.
"But I think it's really important to remember to smile all the time because it totally changes your voice if you're smiling. When I was working in the radio that was one thing that I really learned because you have to smile so much that your face is about to smash in half. You've got to be about a hundred times more animated to get the same excitement in your voice. So, if you think you're smiling enough then smile a bit more."
What are the most important things to consider?
"You want make sure you really connected to your audience and I think that's the most important thing, that connection. And then obviously from my perspective audio is a close second because you can have the best message in the world but then if people can't connect to it because of bad audio, then it’s cutting that connection off there. So, I think there needs to be a marriage of both.
