#72 Celebrated spiritual quilter, fiber artist and author Louise Silk shares her journey.
Louise Silk is a Pittsburgh-based artist, writer, and quilter. For over forty year she has been creating art that combines aesthetics and functionality with meanings and memories for families, friends and organizations. In addition to creating exhibition-level artworks and running a zero-waste studio, she has joined forces with her daughter, Sarah Silk (see episode #67) at SilkDenim selling one-of-a-kind, handcrafted recycled clothing, bags and quilts.
After years of creating many quilts, she discovered the spiritual concept that humans are co-creating with the Divine in each and every minute. That element provided an understanding of her own personal practice as engagement with the Divine, which led to her book: "The Quilting Path: A Guide to Spiritual Discovery Through Fabric, Thread and Kabbalah, published by SkyLight Paths, (c) 2006. Her most recenct book, "A Patchwork Life: The Hands On Guide to Living Piece by Piece," (c) 2020. The Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh is honoring her lifetime of work during the month of September, 2024.
