Qateel Shifai, originally named Mohammad Aurangzeb, was born in Haripur in Hazara District in 1919. His father's sudden demise disrupted his higher education. He tried his luck in business but failed. He moved to Lahore in 1946, which was the start of his literary life. He earned great fame as a film lyricist and a literary poet. He published nearly 20 books of ghazals and poems and wrote over 2000 film lyrics. He won many awards, including the Government of Pakistan’s Pride of Performance Award in 1994. He passed away in 2001. His autobiography, ‘Ghungroo Tuut Gaye,’ was published by his son in 2006.
