Ep 33: Learn About Mentorship Programs For Youth With Disabilities
Annette takes time on this podcast to sit down with Regina Snowden and Joanna Dumas of Partners For Youth with Disabilities based in Massachusetts.
This amazing organization runs several programs including one to one mentoring, career readiness, online mentoring, theater arts and a youth leadership forum, all for youth and young adults with disabilities.
Regina and Joanna discuss the importance of mentorships and how powerful a mentorship relationship can be and why it is so beneficial to youth with disabilities. They also discuss how they got to this point with the mentoring program currently in place in Massachusetts.
Annette brings up the fact that there is a shortage of mentors in this county and why it is so important for young adults with disabilities to have some type of mentor in their transition years. They also discuss the National Disability Mentoring Coalition https://ndmc.pyd.org/ where you can find out more about mentoring an individual with a disability.
Regina and Joanna point out that there is no cost for a person with a disability to find a mentor with the program, but they do rely on the generosity of donors to continue their fine work.
And they discuss how people can get more involved in the organization and mentoring.
This is a very important topic in the disability community and an effective way to assist those transitioning to adulthood.
