Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Allah Almighty created the sun, moon, planet earth and all the celestial Universe to be of service to mankind.
Nothing is existing without purpose.
Our Naqshbandi Shuyukh never lived for themselves. They are inviting us to be as they are, a reflection of our Holy Prophet (ﷺ)- selfless, in service, a source of comfort, always helping to ease others of their difficulties and troubles.
Hence, a mureed aspiring to reach high spirituality is instructed to humbly be as his/her Guide is, in service to mankind and all of creation.
It is a requirement for the mureed to serve. Service to others is essential to build a strong heart connection with our Shaykh.
Service mines the stone heart to uncover metal from it. Only then can the current of rabitah flow through the live metal wired connection.
“So many mureed have high spiritual aspiration (Himma) and they say: ‘Oh my Sheikh, I am asking for Himma in order that my soul be activated.’ The Sheikh replies: ‘Oh my son, I am asking service from you (Khidma). What is this service? I am asking you to be like me; when you are like me, my spiritual powers may come to you, but if we are not of the same kind of metal, the current can’t pass through you: I am copper, you must not remain stone.’” - Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Al-Haqqani (qas).
Service to others makes one beloved to Allah (ﷻ).
Worldly titles have no value in Divine Eyes. He (ﷻ) ranks his servants according to their sincere service to others.
As much as you can, make things easy for people. Begin with those close to you- your spouse, parents and elders. Then to your neighbours and those in the community, be they Muslims or non-Muslims.
Be the hand that gives.
Give through material means of charity, and also through spiritual means of raising your hands daily in du’a, reciting Quran and fervently praying for others to be removed from their afflictions from afar.
Mawlana said that difficulties will be gone if people truly cared to serve others in need.
The key is to do your best.
“The leaders of a community are those who serve them.”- Hadees
Many mureeds aspire to reach leadership roles but miss the most valuable service to Allah (ﷻ), which is to serve others, bringing benefit and comfort to them.
Our fundamental purpose is to be a source of goodness and service to the people around us, a small fragment of our beloved Prophet (ﷺ) who was sent as a Mercy to all of creation.
Worshipping attains the worshiper good rewards and Khidma attains the servant his Lord.
May we become like our Guides, leaving behind what has no value to Allah (ﷻ) and to be in true servanthood to Him (ﷻ), by serving humankind and all of His creation.
