Love is its own reward.
“Living a life of love and service is its own reward.” - Horace McMillon
I think it likely someone else has spoken these exact words well before me. Google offered me no answers this morning. So I’m claiming them as my own.
I grew up in a faith tradition that emphasizes that the decision to follow Jesus on his way is an individual decision that can only be made by person themselves. While this often seen as an adult decision, we believed that even children could be inspired by God.
So at age seven, without prior consultation with my parents, I walked to the front of the church when Pastor Blake extended what we call the invitation. He asked me why I wanted to be baptized. I answered because I wanted to go to heaven. That was sufficient answer.
I’ve since come to understand that the Kingdom of God is already available within and among us, and the fruit of the spirit includes love, joy, peace, patience, perseverance and gentleness. The rewards are present and eternal.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
