Mats Zuccarello's 2023-24 Report Card!

On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we evaluate the 2023-24 season for Mats Zuccarello. We look at how the season took a Wild turn from him occupying the top line with Kirill Kaprizov to star the year, to finishing the year with Marco Rossi and trying to provide a second scoring line to complement a dominant top line. We look at Zuccarello's splits, and his even strength scoring taking a hit despite continued strong Power Play numbers. We hear your comments and hand out grades in the following categories:

Offense: 2.5/5
Defense: 3/5
Special Teams: 4/5

We give Zuccarello a C- for his overall body of work. Yes his numbers on the Power Play were good, and yes the lack of production for the 2nd line wasn't entirely his fault, but a big challenge for Mats going forward is going to be how to score more consistently on his own line. We discuss the factors that can help him do that in 2024-25 to finish out the show, such as calling his own number for shots more and a much more consistent wing opposite him on his line.
