EP 93: Anxious Generation with Jonathan Haidt: How Smartphones and Social Media Broke Gen Z, And What We Can Do To Fix Things
Mosheh sits down with Jonathan Haidt, author of the New York Times bestseller and the buzziest book of 2024, ‘Anxious Generation.’ He has documented the real-life impact of how smartphones, social media, and parenting shifts have led to a massive rise in mental health issues among today’s youngest generations.
Haidt shares insights from his book, and what he has already learned since it was published this spring. He also dives into the fascinating history of how societal changes and technological advancements–dating back to the 1980s– impacted teen mental health and development. Bottom Line: parents stopped letting their kids play unsupervised at the real playground, but gave them free reign in the (more dangerous) digital playground.
We also discuss which CEOs and decision makers have reached out to him, and who hasn’t, since his book was published. In the interview, Haidt also explains how social media has harmed girls and boys differently, and dives into his simple four-part solution to stopping this runawaytrain in its tracks.
