How Brooke Howard-Smith went from X Games to Target Host, Serial Entrepreneur & Futurist
Brooke’s life story actually needs a long-form podcast to do it justice – and to cover all his twists and turns.
He was an X Games medalist, who at 19 co-created Senate, a skate company that was turning over $14m a year, while touring with Tony Hawk and Matt Hoffman. He lost it all, moved to NZ, opened the legendary Pony nightclub in Auckland, was a star on TV3’s hit show Target and has been the Organiser of many of New Zealand's largest national televised fundraisers – collectively raising over 10 million in the last decade.
These days, he describes himself as a Futurist and has co-founded several groundbreaking companies focused on the emerging creator economy, Web3 and the metaverse.
There’s just so much goodness in this one, from Brooke’s role in the All Blacks’ 2007 demise, to how he got Taika Waititi and Joel Little to collab, to all the best stories from his Pony Nightclub, where Lady Gaga, Tommy Lee and Elle Macpherson would visit.
Brooke is an open book and this was such a fun chat filled with a ton of laughs. And his explanation of what the future looks like might bend your brain.
