Body Diversity In Television: The Needle Is Moving But There’s Still A Long Way To Go
On today’s episode of Good Bodies, Emily and Lauren rave over Nicola Coughlan’s recent reply to a reporter about her so-called bravery with baring her body on screen. She said “It is hard ’cause I think women with my body type, women with perfect breasts—we do not see ourselves onscreen enough.” Go off, Nicola!! This leads into a conversation about the need for more body diversity in TV and Film. Lauren tells us about her foray into TV Writing where she was trying to do just that with her original pilot “Fat With Standards.” Is “fat funny best friend” the best plus size actors can hope for amongst the other choices of villain, parent, grandparent, creep, joke or sad person on diet? We don’t think so!
