Working Towards a More Sustainable Way of Living with Lizzie Horvitz
Many companies are claiming to be eco-friendly and send that message in their marketing campaigns to attract more consumers. Lizzie Horvitz, CEO and Founder of Finch, said that there is a drastic growth for companies that invest more in sustainability than companies that don’t. Many consumers tend to purchase products that are sustainable to support eco-friendly initiatives.
The Gen Z market is one of the largest groups of consumers today. They had no buying power five years ago but now, most products are created and marketed based on their preference, and this group cared more about sustainability and eco-friendly goods than most generations.
Thus, If you want to hear more about sustainability in a business, sit back and listen to what Lizzie has to say about sustainability and running a more eco-friendly company.
Who is Lizzie Horvitz?
Lizzie Horvitz received her MBA in Environmental Management at Yale University. She focused on corporate social responsibility and private-sector solutions to climate change. Having worked for Unilever for three years, she knew that she can do more for the environment and changing old habits to sustainability.
Her journey as an entrepreneur began when she had the chance to work in Southeast Asia. Even since then, she has been in the field, expanding and inspiring people to become more sustainable.
Finch, Sustainability Decoder
Finch was created from Lizzie’s initiative to inspire people to help protect the environment. The company analyses products' environmental impact and rates products based on their environmental footprints. This helps consumers make better decisions in buying and helps companies pick eco-friendly materials for manufacturing.
The pandemic gave many people more time to come up with ideas of sustainability and help protect the environment. This has built a stronger foundation for Finch in the market, as people began to notice how humans create an impact on the environment. The lockdowns somehow helped the ecosystem to take a breather from poisonous fumes, smog, carbon emissions, etc.
The long-term objective of Finch is to encourage businesses to shift to a mindset that prioritises sustainability. It's better to look at the long-term results than focus on what you can only gain quarterly. From a financial standpoint, companies that choose to be more sustainable increase their chances for more profit as many consumers are now turning to sustainable products. This encourages companies and manufacturers to lean on sustainability and more importantly help solve the ongoing issues in climate change.
Lizzie’s Superpower
‘Relentless Optimism’ is Lizzie’s superpower. Her optimism led her to build Finch. She feels optimistic about having a better environment as she advocates optimism in changing people’s mindsets to focus more on sustainability. For her, the best way to solve climate change is to have a comprehensive collaboration between private and government sectors.
