There is a very uneasy coexistence of cars and bikes on the road, and cyclists injuries and deaths from collisions with cars and trucks are on the rise.
There are a number of reasons we can point to to explain this increase, and there are also a number of things being done to try to reduce the number of collisions. But what about the tech in cars and trucks that’s designed to mitigate these issues? How does it work, and are we seeing any promising metrics to show that it’s making a difference?
To answer these questions, we spoke with Chad Zagorski, the Lead Engineer of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) at General Motors, who specifically works on bicycle detection technology to help keep cyclists - and pedestrians - safer on the roads.
