I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 30th of July, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We go straight to 1 Corinthians 11:23-30:
”For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.”
Holy communion is the most sacred of all Christian sacraments. It is something we must not neglect. I break bread with my family and I break bread with my wife as often as I can. Just a week ago I spent two days with over 100 men who I am mentoring and the climax of the two days is when we break bread and say farewell to each other.
A while back I was sent the most beautiful gift from one of my spiritual sons, a portable communion set. I take this set with me and I have communion with the Lord as often as I can. There is no special place to have communion. You can have communion with the Lord, flying in an aeroplane, driving into Africa in an overland truck, you can have it with a person who is dying and going to be with the Lord. If you love Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you may perform it. It doesn’t have to be a certain person. What it does have to be, is someone who is very sincere for the Lord.
I want to encourage you to break bread with your family as often as you can and we remember what Jesus Christ has done for each one of us.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
