J. Lewis was a devoted husband and father when his wife Kim developed a sudden illness that left her in a medically-induced coma. Thinking it was just a bad bout of the flu, Jay left his wife in the capable care of medical personnel at his local hospital to go home and look after their 2 daughters. While worried, his wife Kim’s mother was with her, so he thought all would be well after she got treatment.
Tragically, Kim suffered a heart attack and collapsed lung, cutting off oxygen to her brain. What followed was a heart-wrenching month and a half on life support, seeing his wife brought out of and back into induced comas, until the time came for him to make the only decision he could make, even in the face of family opposition… to let her go peacefully, as she would have wanted.
Now a highly sought after life and grief coach, as well as a motivational speaker, Jay’s painful ordeal in losing his wife led him to develop what he calls the “Grief Empowerment Theory.” As described on his website, it recognizes that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed. And, it challenges those grieving to transform the energy of their grief into a mindset shift, and use it as fuel to realize the best version of themselves.
