Breaking Brett Jensen kicks the show off by talking about Governor Cooper addressed the state of emergency due to Tropical Storm Debbie. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall, potential severe flooding, and dangerous conditions, including possible tornadoes. More than 350 National Guard soldiers and airmen have been activated, and swift water rescue teams are on standby. A federal disaster declaration has been received, directing federal assistance to North Carolina.
Later in the show Brett Jensen interviews NC Representative Jason Saine: as he discusses his Retirement after 13 years in the legislature. He decided to retire to spend more time with his family, particularly his son who plays high school football. Saine discussed how personal and professional factors led to his decision, including the desire to be more present for his family. He mentioned advice from former Speaker Harold Brubaker about knowing when it’s time to leave.
Heather Ryan, current school board chairwoman, is expected to take over his seat, which Sane believes will be beneficial for the district. Ryan’s familiarity with the legislature and connections are seen as advantages.
