Dr. Richard Guyer is a pioneer in disc replacement surgery that has helped thousands of people, from professional athletes (pro golfers included) to everyday Joe’s get out of pain and resume an active life. He performed one of the first disc replacements in the United States in 2000 and has been doing them ever since. Dr. Guyer is a caregiver in the truest sense of the word and that is clear in his ‘Family Test’ mantra that guides him in his decision-making process.
One of the original founders of the Texas Back Institute (and a past President), Dr. Guyer is also the Director of the Texas Back Institute Spine Fellowship Program, as well as the Founder and Chairman of the Board of the TBI Research Foundation. In addition to these responsibilities he still performs disc replacement surgeries, lectures around the world, and has written numerous articles. In fact, one of his latest articles, which he co-published with numerous others (including former podcast guest Dan Hellman) was the number one downloaded article in 2021 in the ‘Sage Journals - Global Spinal Journal titled ‘Is Golf a Contact Sport? Protection of the Spine and Return to Play After Lumbar Surgery’.
