Exiting his business & finding new purpose with an Employee Ownership Trust, with Chris Budd
After 18 years running the financial planning business he founded, Chris Budd was ready for a change of direction. Recognising he needed a new purpose and a way to exit his business, Chris stumbled across an organisation called the Employee Ownership Association. There, he found both.
The solution to Chris selling his business so that it could continue to flourish – via an Employee Ownership Trust – also became his new career. Recognising the enormous benefits of such an exit strategy, Chris wrote a book about it called The Eternal Business and now provides consultancy to other business owners who wish to follow his path.
Chris firmly believes that retirement is simply a change of circumstances. If we are pulled by a deep sense of purpose to do something different than what we’ve been doing our entire working lives, rather than pushed from our position, the transition is simpler and our new phase of life becomes more meaningful.
Chris joins me on this episode of The Retirement Café Podcast to explain his journey from exiting his business via an Employee Ownership Trust to finding his purpose for the next phase of life. Tune in to episode 023 of The Retirement Café Podcast.
