Would you ever ask someone who wears glasses: “Are you going to wear them forever? It’s not good to be dependant on glasses for your eyesight.” or would you ask someone who uses insulin: “Are you going to use insulin forever? It’s not good to be dependent on insulin for your diabetes.” If your answer is no (which I hope it is) why do some people still ask these questions but in relation to ADHD medication? What is it about taking medication to manage the symptoms of a chronic condition/disorder that worries so many people? Why is it viewed as a dependency? Rather than thinking it is nastiness, I put it down to stigma and people being unaware about ADHD medication, how it works, its success rate and the reasons why people take it. Therefore, in today’s episode I discuss ADHD stimulants the discourse surrounding it and the positive impact it has on me and my life and why I will I probably be on medication forever.
