E162: How Does Birth Control Affect Your Brain, Body, and Emotions During AND After Taking It?
Send us a text
We're starting a new mini-series this month, all month long I'm going to be talking about birth control, both hormonal and non-hormonal and walking through many of the nuances of how birth control affects us in our bodies, minds, and social lives.
Today I'm kicking off the series and talking about some of the lesser-known effects of birth control on the body - the way it can change brain function and mood, and how it even affects the ability to lean into our feminine. If you have noticed that you don't handle stress well, have mood swings, or even feel like you aren't processing emotions like you'd like to...it could be your birth control (or your history of birth control!)
The next few weeks I'm going to cover what options we have for birth control and do my best to provide more fully informed consent for women when we make choices about our reproduction as well as talking about how we can recover minerals, vitamins, and gut and liver health to have happier hormones post-birth control.
