Karen Read Supporters Hold A Rally (9/4/24)

Over Labor Day weekend, a rally was held in support of Karen Read, a Massachusetts woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe. The rally, described as the largest yet in support of Read, saw people gather in Dedham, Massachusetts, with additional demonstrations occurring in other locations, including Florida and Spain. The event was organized to raise awareness and support for Read, who is set to face a second trial in January 2025 after her first trial ended in a hung jury earlier this summer.


During the rally, supporters wore "Free Karen Read" shirts and held signs expressing their belief that she is being framed by law enforcement. Karen Read herself made an appearance, interacting with her supporters and expressing gratitude for their backing. The rally was intended to highlight what her supporters claim is a series of questionable actions by the police involved in investigating O'Keefe's death, which they argue could happen to anyone under similar circumstances.

Read is accused of striking O'Keefe with her car after a night of drinking and leaving him in a snowbank in 2022. Her defense has consistently portrayed her as a victim of a cover-up by corrupt law enforcement officials. The rally reflected the ongoing efforts of her supporters to keep the case in the public eye and to call for an investigation into the police's handling of the case.
