Wade Allen, a 39-year-old man from Michigan, was sentenced to 39 to 60 years in prison for strangling and dismembering his girlfriend, Kelly Jean Warner, in 2019. Her remains were found in coolers in his apartment. Allen also sexually assaulted a fellow inmate in jail in 2020. The assault occurred after Allen was caught speaking about his girlfriend's murder and the inmate reported it to the authorities. While Allen never admitted to killing Warner, he did apologize to her family and said he was trying to take care of himself. The judge, however, highlighted the long history of abuse Allen had directed at Warner and other partners, and pointed out that he had only admitted guilt when his trial was about to start.
