293. The Goal of a Blessing for My Child's Life

Welcome back to the kitchen table. You might be wondering, what does it mean to speak a blessing into your child’s life? At its core, it’s about sharing words of life, truth, and encouragement. Understanding the actual goal behind a blessing can help you put it into practice.

The goal of speaking a blessing is straightforward: it’s not just about who your child is today but who they are becoming through God’s work in their lives. When we bless our children, we are highlighting the gifts and potential that God has placed within them. 

As parents, we have a unique opportunity to remind our children of their identity in Christ. We can reflect on 2 Corinthians 3:18, which assures us that God is transforming us. By sharing words of encouragement and affirmation, we help them see that God is actively at work in their lives, shaping them into the people he created them to be.

The next time you sit down with your child, take a moment to share your hopes and prayers for them. Ask them, “What do you think God has planned for you?” This question opens the door for meaningful conversations about their gifts and dreams. Speak into their lives, and let them know that you see the good work God is doing within them.
