There are four pillars of meditation namely, asana, lucidity, mindfulness and vigilance. There are four primary virtues namely, compassion, self-discipline, gratitude and detachment. There are also four secondary virtues. When you work towards inculcating the secondary virtues, the primary virtues will automatically come to you and similarly when you work towards primary virtues, you will acquire secondary virtues.
The first secondary virtue is empathy. How do you express empathy? Every human being goes through grief or sadness at some point. The miseries come and go and have different forms. Empathy is to listen to other person’s grief when they want to share without giving any advice. Very often, when people share their grief with the other person, the response is mostly either an advice or the other person starts comparing their own miseries with them.
