The third pillar of dhyana is mindfulness. While you are meditating with a healthy body and also maintaining the lucidity but somehow are not able to keep that lucidity for long. Your mind starts running away in all directions because you have lost the mindfulness. Sri Krishna says to Arjuna that,” O Arjuna, did you listen to me with concentration? If you had listened to me with concentration then all your desires and ignorance must have been destroyed. It is not possible to have any doubts left if you had heard my knowledge with concentration because my knowledge dispels all the darkness. My knowledge is the light and the darkness cannot stay in the light.”
Arjuna replies to Sri Krishna, “Prabhu, my attachment is destroyed because I am mindful now. I know what I have to do. I had forgotten but now with your grace I am mindful of my actions. I was devious but now I am on the right path. Now I am definitely surrendered at your feet and I will do whatever you guide me to do. “ Mindfulness is not possible without concentration and concentration is not possible without being mindful.
