Om Swami giving an introduction on meditation at the hindi meditation camp held at the ashram.
The question is why should we meditate? What is the need of meditation? You can get the same nectar from bhakti, devotional service, from japa or from doing good karma. Whatever activities a person undertakes, he does it so that he can have peace in his life. So that he can eat peacefully, sleep peacefully and live peacefully. The other name of happiness is peace. The one who is at peace is happy. And, the one who is happy can only be a samadhist, (one who is firmly established in his tranquil equipoise). An angry, sad, egoistic or one who is in conflict cannot be successful in meditation.
To practice and perfect the art of meditation, you must inculcate some very important virtues in your life. The more you practice the art of meditation, the better you get it. The results will depend upon how much time you are ready to devote on it. The more sugar you put, the sweeter it gets.
