Eddie Barbash plays American roots music on alto saxophone. He brings his horn and sensibility to Texas and Appalachian fiddle tunes, bluegrass, old time, R&B, soul, and jazz. His pioneering take on these traditions has attracted audiences around the world. He is a founding member and the lyrical core of Jon Batiste and Stay Human, currently the house band for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. He was raised in Oaxaca, Mexico, Atlanta, Georgia and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He lives in Brooklyn.
We recorded this interview at a Japanese restaurant on 55th street in Manhattan. I caught Eddie in between him playing for the taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and him leading his own band at The Manderlay Bar.
