But, while the Drive-Ins died and horror movies disappeared from the movie theaters, there was one safe haven left for the horror fan: The Independent Video Store. The time of the "Mom and Pop" video store, before the big studios realized the goldmine of it, was a great time to be a movie fan. In this episode I talk about the place of the video store as the ignition point for a cultural movement. And, on a personal level, how the video store culture saved me through the 1990s, and introduced me to Guillermo del Toro, Coffin Joe, Lars von Trier, and Jan Svankmeyer. Thanks for listening.
