Just as we were celebrating the outcome of an EU Brexit Summit that contained a commitment to protecting Ireland’s interests in any Brexit deal, news emerged of a disastrous conversation between Theresa May and Commission President Jean Claude Juncker. A report of the conversation revealed a startling lack of common ground between London and Brussels that, if accurate, would suggest it is not safe to bank on any deal being reached at all, with damaging consequences for Ireland.
