Stuart Sheldon
“Stuart Sheldon created one of the billboards, an American flag posing spiralized questions about freedom. To him, it’s about urging people “at a granular level” to start over, with less fear and more optimism.” Los Angeles Times
At 36, divorced and desperate, I simply wanted a loving family, a wife and child to share my future. I had neither. So, with nowhere else to turn, I began to draw the outline of the woman I saw in my mind's eye, arms raised, sexy, triumphant. For two years, I painted this silhouette, creating a total of 35 tableaus, each a call out to the universe. Soon after I finished the last work, I met someone. She was smart, confident, silly and gorgeous. And most amazingly of all, she looked just like the figure in the paintings. That silhouette is now my wife and the mother of our two beautiful children. And my art career is thriving like never before.
Given the absolute mess that our so-called civilization finds itself in, the dominant intention of my creative work is no longer focused inward, onto myself, but outward, onto society, where I wish to catalyze human connection and bridge building.
