How do we shift from discipline as policing and enforcing rules to skill-building and self-management? When are children hearing our messages and listening to our guidance as we try to teach right from wrong? How do we give them responsibility for their behavior while setting high expectations for their capacity to understand and choose well? These are the questions that shape our reactions to all the mistakes and challenges of children pushing, testing and experimenting with what they can and cannot do. It's a never-ending dance between parent and child - learning and growing together.
