On this very serious episode of G220, we are looking forward to having our guest and hip hop artist, Chrys Jones, come on the show and talk about his articles, "A Departure From Evangelicalism?" in which he brings up the problem surrounding the term "White" Evangelicalism. We will further discuss race issues that are being brought up by popular artists and explore gospel-centered questions and solutions.
Chrys, an artist, producer, and engineer, strives to contribute meaningfully to the genre which helped lead him to Christ. He is a Kentucky native who signed with a Christian Hip Hop group called Christcentric in 2017. As an aritist, Chris has said, "I want to promote Christ-exalting, scripture-saturated, high quality, lyrical theology through the music I make. As hip-hop follows the trends of what’s current and popular, I want to be true to the music that I grew up listening to. More importantly, want to be true to the gospel which is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16)."
Prior to his conversion, Chrys was a hip-hop artist whose raps were filled with pride, self-righteousness, and the false Christianity which has become prevalent in today’s hip hop scene. In the autumn of 2006, Chrys realized he was a false convert and was later born again after reading the gospel of Matthew and Revelation. He was determined from that point forward to use his talents for the Lord.
