Well, this episode has been a long time coming folks. We've tried to do our best to touch on the "flagship" films and franchises of the horror genre; the films everyone know and love. Part of this is because we know, deep down, that eventually things are going to get really weird and obscure so - when we inevitable do a show on "Microwave Massacre" look fondly back on these big name episodes and remember the good times we had.
This week, we're talking about the 1984 classic A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. NIGHTMARE is the film that made Wes Craven a household name, it's the film that made New Line Cinema a staple producer of the horror genre, and it gave that wife beater Johnny Depp the footing to build a massively successful career.
Still today, NIGHTMARE gives us some of the most creative kills ever seen on film and remains a go-to for late night movie nights and Halloween screams. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET has become a staple in the horror community and remains a whole hell of a lot of fun even 32 years after its' initial release.
As always this week, we discuss the plot of this landmark film and come to the conclusion that Nancy's mother was probably more a part of the problem than we originally realize. We'll also talk about how - really - they've started to give out Pulitzers for just about anything, especially in 1984.
We close out our episode with the TRUTH behind the nightmare, and briefly cover the Cambodian Killing Fields which, according to Craven, inspired the whole NIGHTMARE franchise.
All that and more on this knife fingered, gnarley-skinned, impeccably dressed episode of The Horrofied Podcast.
EEEEEENNNNJOY!
As always be sure to rate and review on iTunes and give us some love, lord knows we need it. We're all such lonely people.
Music this week is provided by the, always amazing, Jackson Wayne! Check out his new EP on Soundcloud (soundcloud.com/jaxwayne)and give him and his sick, sick rhymes some lovin'.
