The open door policy started out as a way to build an organization of trust, transparency, and collaboration, but now it's been misconstrued and we've lost that original idea. If you start training people that they can bypass their manager and go to another senior leader without working to solve a problem at the level it should be solved, you're ultimately preventing that manager from building the appropriate trust and relationship -- leading to further challenges.
