Ironman World Record holder Tim Don was a favourite to win the 2017 Ironman World Championship in Kona. He arrived on the Big Island early to acclimatize but while out on a short training ride two days before the race, the worst happened: he was hit by a car and broke his neck. If he wanted any hope of ever competing again, he had to make the choice to get a halo screwed into his skull. A friend suggested recording his recovery journey, and that video has been turned into the new documentary presented by On Running, The Man with the Halo.
On today's edition of the Triathlon Taren podcast, we talk to Tim about the accident, the documentary, what it feels like to get screws drilled into your head, his never-quit attitude, and whether he sees himself racing Kona again in the future.
