After Mrs. Weasley’s howler, Herbology class begins with the introduction to mandrakes and their uses. Ron’s broken wand makes classes difficult, Harry is accused of seeking fame, and Lockhart takes up the role of mentoring Harry’s “Thirst for fame”. Lockhart’s classes are a joke and he is clearly incompetent. Oliver Wood unveils Gryffindor’s new quidditch team training only to find their first practice interrupted by the Slytherin team and their new highest paying player, Draco Malfoy. Draco drops the M-word on Hermione and Ron’s wand backfires while defending her. While serving his detention, Harry hears a cold, terrifying voice which Lockhart doesn’t hear. Later, Harry first finds out Filch in a squib and then is invited to NHN’s 500th deathday party which is a real fright fest. After leaving the party, HRH stumble upon a petrified Mrs. Norris hanging in front of painted words telling that the COS has been opened - Enemies of the Heir Beware. Harry lies about hearing voices as he has become the prime heir suspect around school. We learn that the mandrakes will provide the perfect anti-petrification solution and about the COS from Prof. Binns. Hermione begins working on polyjuice potion to interrogate Malfoy, Lockhart uses Harry to act out famous scenes from his own books, and Harry is dogged by a bludger that has clearly been bewitched. After catching the snitch with a broken arm, Lockhart removes all the bones from his arm. While regrowing his arm bones in the hospital wing, Harry has a visit from Dobby who admits he blocked the barrier at king’s cross and that he tampered with the bludger, but before the night is over Colin Creevey is brought into the hospital wing as petrification victim #2.
